On 9 July a fire broke out aboard the cargo vessel LCT Lily Princess while it was docked at Sorcom Private Port in the Philippines.
The blaze began in the vessel’s galley and quickly escalated, triggering immediate response from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). Local coast guard personnel, in coordination with fire authorities, arrived on the scene to support firefighting efforts.
In addition, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Bicol (MEPERG-BCL) were alerted to monitor for potential oil spills or hazardous substance leaks.
Thankfully, the fire was successfully contained and all crewmembers were safely evacuated. However, one crew member sustained a minor injury and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
An investigation is currently underway by the Philippine Coast Guard and relevant agencies to determine the exact cause of the fire.
