Hafnia is now ready to purchase 14.1 million A-shares in Torm. This follows Torm’s appointment of an independent board chairman.

Hafnia announced its acquisition of the large stake in Torm on September 11, but stipulated that the chairman of Torm’s board for 10 years, Chris Boehringer, be replaced. This happened the other day, when Simon Mackenzie Smith was appointed as the new chairman.

Therefore, Hafnia will now execute the purchase from the major shareholder Oaktree, which according to a stock exchange announcement from the shipping company represents approximately 13.97 pct. of Torm’s share capital.

Following the purchase, Hafnia will be the second-largest owner of Torm after Oaktree.

In the announcement from Hafnia on September 11, the shipping company floated the idea of exploring the possibilities for a merger of the two shipping companies.

Should that happen, Hafnia would become the world’s absolute largest product tanker shipping company with a fleet of more than 200 tankers.
