According to ClassNK, Fukui Seisakusho Co., Ltd. has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore the development of ultra-high pressure safety relief valves intended for hydrogen dual-fuel engines. This agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony at the Gastech 2025 exhibition in Milan, Italy.

In 2023, both organizations initiated a collaborative study focused on installing safety relief valves in the cargo tanks of liquefied hydrogen carriers aboard actual vessels. This partnership previously resulted in an MOU signed at Gastech 2023 and led to the issuance of a type approval certificate for their PILOT-type low-pressure safety relief valve (PSL-MD type) earlier this year.

Building on this success, they have now committed to jointly developing ultra-high pressure safety relief valves tailored for hydrogen dual-fuel engines. These new valves will need to meet stringent technical specifications, including material resistance against hydrogen embrittlement and enhanced sealing performance essential for effective hydrogen fuel supply systems.

The responsibilities outlined in this collaboration are as follows:

This partnership aims not only to advance technology but also to facilitate the broader adoption of propulsion systems that utilize hydrogen as an alternative fuel source.
