Tomasos family led Super-Eco Tankers Management has returned to the newbuilding market with a contract for up to four product tankers at a reborn and expanding Chinese shipyard

The Greek owner has placed an order for two firm 41,000-dwt units plus two optional vessels at Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding. Delivery dates have not been disclosed.

The deal stands out as one of the few product tanker newbuilding contracts placed by Greek owners this year, at a time when investment momentum has shifted toward crude carriers. Riviera has reported that Suezmax and VLCC orders accounted for 77% of Greek contracting between January and October 2025.

Super-Eco Tankers currently oversees a fleet of nine /product tankers built between 2014 and 2022, based on data from the Equasis platform. The wider Super-Eco group is also active in the dry bulk segment through Super-Eco Bulkers, which operates a fleet of five vessels.

Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding has become increasingly popular with Greek owners since re-entering the market. Chartworld and Conbulk are both reported to have placed container ship orders there this year.

The yard, which filed for bankruptcy in 2021, underwent restructuring under new ownership and management three years later. Super-Eco Tankers’ newbuilding order is its second tanker contract of 2025, following reports in Chinese media that MC Group signed earlier this year for a series of 50,000-dwt vessels.
