On November 26, the No. 1 and No. 2 ships of the 49,900-ton /product oil tanker built by Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) for China Merchants Nanjing Tanker Co., Ltd. (referred to as “China Merchants Nanjing Tanker”) were ignited and started construction. Shipowner representatives, surveyors from the China Classification Society, and the GSI project team jointly signed key milestone documents. Leaders and guests including Jian Yujin, Deputy Party Secretary, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, and Chairman of the Trade Union of China Merchants Nanjing Tanker; Shen Xiaoqing, Director of the Nansha Survey Office of the China Classification Society; and Kang Youping, Deputy General Manager of GSI, attended and witnessed the commencement ceremony.
Guangzhou Shipyard International and China Merchants Nanjing Tanker share a profound friendship and a solid foundation for cooperation. Both parties have always adhered to the concept of mutual support and pragmatic cooperation, and have jointly gone through a 15-year journey of cooperative development. During this period, GSI has cumulatively built and delivered 12 high-quality MR-type oil tankers for China Merchants Nanjing Tanker. The commencement of these new vessels strongly testifies to the continuous deepening of the strategic cooperation between the two parties.
A total of four ships in this series of 49,900-ton /product oil tankers are planned for construction and will be delivered to the shipowner successively between 2026 and 2027. This ship type is the latest generation – the 16th generation MR-type oil tanker – independently designed and developed by GSI. The ship has an overall length of 183 meters, a molded breadth of 32.2 meters, a structural draft of 13.2 meters, and a service speed of 14.5 knots. It is预留 (/prepared for) methanol dual-fuel drive functionality, its emission standards meet the IMO TIER III standard, its EEDI energy efficiency index meets the Phase 3 requirements, and its intelligent energy efficiency management meets the CCS I-SHIP(E) classification notation requirements.
Based on an excellent hull line design, this ship type has enhanced performance space and optimized propulsion efficiency. It features fast speed, light lightweight, low energy consumption, and strong adaptability. In terms of energy consumption indicators, environmental performance, and reliability requirements, it has reached the forefront level among ships of the same type.
