Representatives from all parties attending the ceremony sign the commencement document
On June 23, the first 10,800-vehicle dual-fuel car carrier built by CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in collaboration with CSSC Trading for South Korea’s GLOVIS (Hyundai Logistics Co., Ltd.) commenced construction. Representatives from the shipowner, DNV classification society, KR classification society, and the GSI project team attended the commencement ceremony and signed the commencement document on behalf of all parties.
The vessel was developed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI). It has a length of 230 meters, a beam of 40 meters, and a structural draft of 10.5 meters. It adopts a dual-fuel power propulsion system, and is also equipped with a shaft generator and solar photovoltaic power generation system, balancing environmental protection and efficiency while meeting the International Maritime Organization’s Tier I emission standards. The ship features 14 decks for vehicles, of which 5 are adjustable movable decks, capable of flexibly loading diverse cargo such as electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and heavy trucks. The maximum single-ship vehicle capacity reaches 10,800 vehicles, which, if lined up end to end, would exceed 50 kilometers. The vessel is equipped with 16 sets of hydraulic power movable ramps and 2 layers of hydraulic movable decks, significantly improving loading efficiency and stability, catering to global automotive trade demands.
Through iterative upgrades in construction processes and technology, GSI has secured orders for over 40 car carriers, including 14 of the 10,800-vehicle dual-fuel type. All 26 car carriers delivered to date have been completed ahead of the contractual delivery schedule. Through lean management and innovations in technology and processes, GSI has steadily improved the construction efficiency and quality of its car carriers.
