HD Hyundai has signed a new agreement with H-Line Shipping to jointly develop AI-based autonomous and eco-friendly ship technologies, aiming to improve vessel efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and support compliance with environmental regulations.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) includes participation from HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), HD Hyundai Marine Solution, and Avikus, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai developing autonomous maritime technology.
The group says that they will collaborate on integrating multiple digital systems to support more efficient vessel operations throughout the ship lifecycle, from design and construction to maintenance and performance at sea.
This will involve combining Avikus’s autonomous navigation platform HiNAS, the OceanWise routing system from HD Hyundai Marine Solution, and HD KSOE’s AI-based cargo handling platform AI-CHS.
H-Line Shipping will support the programme by providing an LNG carrier for sea trials.
“Technology that transports cargo via the most optimal routes using AI is a critical factor determining a shipping company’s competitiveness,” said Ho-Dong Seo, COO of H-Line Shipping.
“We expect this collaboration further to enhance the efficiency and safety of our fleet operations.”
