St. Petersburg – The Russian shipyard Emperium has delivered the first of a new series of electric river ferries ordered by the local shipowner Vodohod. Strelna belongs to the Moskva 2.0 Project series of ferries, built as improved variants of a previous series of diesel-powered vessels that operated in Russian inland waters during the Soviet era. The ferry, which has already begun operational sailings in St. Petersburg, has an overall length of 33.3 meters, a width of eight meters, a draft of just 1.2 meters, a crew of 10 people, and can accommodate up to 140 passengers on two decks. A 550 kW battery pack powers two 200 kW azimuth thrusters to achieve a cruising speed of 6.5 knots. The ferry can use a backup diesel generator. Emperium will build a total of six Moskva 2.0 Project ferries by 2026. All vessels in the series will be classified by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
