HD KSOE wins $1.46bn order for six boxships and two VLGCs

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has won orders worth Won 2.1308tn ($1.46bn) for six container ships and two very large gas carriers, according to the company.

The South Korean shipbuilding group signed a Won 1.7787tn ($1.22bn) contract with an unidentified Asian customer for six container ships and a separate Won 352.1bn ($241m) deal with an Oceania-based customer for two VLGCs.

All eight vessels will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered by 2029.

The latest contracts take HD KSOE’s 2026 order intake to $10.81bn for 94 ships, equal to 46.4% of its full-year target of $23.31bn.

The total includes 26 container ships, 26 petroleum product carriers, 20 LPG and ammonia carriers, 12 LNG carriers, seven crude oil tankers, two PCTCs and one icebreaker.

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering is the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding and offshore engineering business, with activities covering shipbuilding, offshore engineering, marine engines and energy-related industrial operations.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is a South Korean shipbuilder based in Ulsan. Its operations include commercial shipbuilding, naval vessels, offshore units and marine engine manufacturing.
