Amidst murky prospects for the transport sector’s next day, the demand for passenger air transport is recording “high flights”.
Specifically, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), global demand for passenger air transport increased by 3.6% on an annual basis in September. This rise is attributed to the strong recovery of international travel, as international passenger traffic recorded an increase of the order of 5.1% year-on-year.
In parallel, the overall seat availability also moved in similar “turns”, increasing by 3.7% in September (in terms of available seat kilometers). At the same time, the load factor reached 83.4%, being marginally lower compared to September 2024.
Finally, IATA’s Director General, Willie Walsh, stressed that the growth of the passenger air transport sector is expected to continue, despite the hurdles created by the unresolved supply chain issues.
