In the eighteenth-century building, the company tasked with managing the events related to the America’s Cup will temporarily be based.
“With the arrival of the America’s Cup, finally the ancient restored building of the Immacolatella will welcome the memory of our port.” This was stated to Corriere del Mezzogiorno by Eliseo Cuccaro, president of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority. On July 1st, a protocol will be signed in Naples with the company Sport e Salute to inaugurate the historical exhibitions, possibly as early as September, in conjunction with the pre-regattas of the international sailing competition.
“Thanks to the agreement we are about to sign,” Cuccaro specified, “until the end of 2027, the Immacolatella will be the temporary headquarters of the company Sport e Salute, tasked with managing the events related to the America’s Cup. On the ground floor, there will be exhibition halls with a suggestive museum of the sea, emigration, and maritime health. Everything has already been renovated; we just need to set up the spaces.”
The structure commissioned in 1740 by Charles of Bourbon – writes Corriere del Mezzogiorno – was initially the seat of the Health Deputation, then housed the offices of the Navy, and finally, between the 19th and 20th centuries, assumed the function of a maritime station. From this pier, over two million emigrants embarked on transatlantic liners bound for the United States, Argentina, and Uruguay.
