China News Service, Nanning, July 9 (Mo Yujie, Wei Zhencong, Chen Zhibin) — Information provided by China Railway Nanning Group Co., Ltd. (referred to as CR Nanning) on the 9th shows that in the first half of this year, the China-Vietnam freight trains originating from Guangxi transported a total of 18,870 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of export goods, a year-on-year increase of 283%. Cross-border rail freight transport between China and Vietnam continues to thrive.
Staff from the Nanning Railway Logistics Center of CR Nanning explained that since the beginning of this year, the export volumes of auto parts and fiberboard shipped via Guangxi-originated China-Vietnam freight trains reached 2,528 TEUs and 4,580 TEUs, respectively, representing year-on-year growth of 100% and 398%, with significant increases. Among them, auto parts and motorcycle components from Jiangsu, Guangdong, and other regions are transported by rail to the Nanning International Railway Port for consolidation before being shipped to Vietnam via the China-Vietnam freight trains, forming a new growth point in transport.

Guangxi Bangda Tianyuan International Freight Co., Ltd., a company engaged in domestic and international freight forwarding, has been consolidating scattered cargo from various regions in Nanning through its less-than-container-load (LCL) services before transferring them to China-Vietnam freight trains for export to Vietnam. In the first half of this year, the company shipped 3,366 TEUs of export goods via these trains, a 128% increase year-on-year. Rail transport accounts for over 90% of its cross-border freight operations.
“This year, export demand to Vietnam has been strong, with a wide variety of goods, including generator parts and auto components, sourced from southwestern, northwestern, southern, and eastern China. With faster customs clearance and train processing procedures, we expect this year’s shipment volume to surpass last year’s total by the end of July,” said Yang Bo, the company’s logistics director.
To meet the growing demand for cross-border freight transport between China and Vietnam, CR Nanning has coordinated with Vietnamese railway authorities to adjust the capacity of cross-border trains. Since the beginning of this year, the traction tonnage for cross-border freight trains has increased from 1,000 tons to 1,300 tons. Additionally, the frequency of scheduled China-Vietnam freight trains has risen from five to 14 per week, providing more transport options for Chinese exports. Currently, the fastest transit time for Guangxi-originated China-Vietnam freight trains from Nanning to Yen Vien in Vietnam is just 14 hours.
To date, Guangxi-originated China-Vietnam freight trains transport over 380 types of export goods, with cargo sources covering 25 provinces, including Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Hebei. The cross-border freight network extends to multiple ASEAN countries such as Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand, creating a “fast track” for trade between China and ASEAN nations. (End)
