India and Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC) between the two countries. On 4th September, the event took place in New Delhi, in the presence of both nations’ Prime Ministers.
In this partnership, both nations will collaborate with industry partners to develop infrastructure and adopt new technologies that can help the shipping sector transition to fuels with zero or near zero greenhouse gas emissions. The GDSC agreement also covers the exchange of digital information and carrying out joint research on new green technologies and solutions.
The project aims to achieve two goals that include making shipping more digital and reducing its carbon footprint.
India’s strong renewable energy base and manufacturing capacity make it well-placed to produce and export alternative marine fuels. At the same time, Singapore’s position as a major global port with advanced bunkering services and maritime innovation will support and strengthen the partnership.
