The Central Adriatic Port Authority is awarding contracts for two seabed dredging projects to increase navigation safety. The work will consist of the relocation of sediments in the Port of Pesaro and the deepening of quay 22 in the Port of Ancona.

The total budget for the initiative, awarded through a negotiated procedure, amounts to €322,971 (USD 379,781), co-financed by the Next Generation EU PNRR program called Logistics development for the agri-food, fishing and aquaculture, forestry, floriculture and nursery sectors. Once the checks on economic operators are completed, the project will be awarded and must be completed by June.

In the Port of Pesaro, at the request of the Port Authority of Pesaro and the operators, a seabed leveling project will be carried out aimed at improving accessibility and safety in the port. The development involves the removal of approximately 6,000 cubic meters of sediment within the port. The work will cover five distinct areas with a total surface area of approximately 17,200 square meters.

The objective in said port area is to improve the maneuverability of vessels and ensure better navigability, especially near the entrance and the most critical areas of the inner breakwater. The sediments will be removed from the identified areas and subsequently moved to a specific area within the port, located near the jetty of the North Quay.

In the Port of Ancona, the Port Authority will dredge approximately 6,000 meters of sediment in the waters in front of quay 22. The work will cover an area of approximately 14,500 square meters. The objective of the dredging is to reach the necessary bathymetric depth for the safe berthing of vessels with drafts of up to 10.2 meters.

“We are carrying out two projects that will contribute to improving the safety of navigability in the affected ports, as a prelude to a more effective dredging project. This request, in the Port of Pesaro, was driven by the Port Authority itself and the port operators, while in Ancona the project will contribute to improving the use of one of the most important commercial quays,” declared Vincenzo Garofalo, special commissioner of the Central Adriatic Port Authority.
