The Central Adriatic Port Authority began dredging works at pier 22 of the Port of Ancona (Italy). The works are being co-financed by the Next Generation fund of the European Union.

On the website of the Italian body it was reported that “the dredging will involve the removal of approximately 6,000 cubic meters of sediment in the waters in front of pier 22. The works, carried out by La Dragaggi srl of Marghera (Venice), will cover an area of approximately 14,500 square meters”.

“The dredging, which will last approximately 10 days without affecting the maritime traffic of the port, will aim to reach a bathymetric depth of 10.75 meters above mean sea level”, it was added.

In this regard, Vincenzo Garofalo, special commissioner of the Central Adriatic Port Authority, stated that “the works at pier 22 will improve the functioning of one of the most important commercial infrastructures of the port, increasing its capacity. While we await the resumption of ministerial funding for the general dredging project, which will cover piers 19 to 26, we are initiating an initial intervention”, concluded Garofalo.
