Kiel Port has now completed the final phase of its extensive shore power infrastructure. With the expansion, the port can supply up to three cruise ships and four ferries with green electricity simultaneously.

Since 2019, Kiel has been supplying green shore power to ocean-going vessels and is thus among the pioneers in Europe.

Over the weekend, the port inaugurated its second facility for cruise ships at the Ostseekai terminal. Instead of one ship, the terminal can now supply two cruise ships with shore power at the same time. An additional cruise ship can be connected at the Ostuferhafen terminal.

With the completed expansion, Kiel has one of the most comprehensive shore power infrastructures in Europe.

H.M. The King inaugurated the shore power facility in Copenhagen Port in early June, which will initially be able to supply up to 20 MW. But when the facility is fully built out, it will be able to supply 50 MW – enough to power up to six cruise ships simultaneously – making it Europe’s largest shore power facility.
