Las Palmas Cruise Port’s new terminal, described as the largest in Europe, began operations on October 2, 2025, with the arrival of the cruise ship Celebrity Apex at Santa Catalina Pier, the company said in a statement.

The event marked the operational launch of the new facility and the start of a new stage for Gran Canaria’s cruise industry.

The terminal, managed by Global Ports Holding (GPH) and its local partner SEPCAN, covers 14,000 square meters across two floors and can handle up to four ships at once. It includes three boarding bridges, areas for retail and dining, and is equipped to support both homeport and transit operations.

An adjacent outdoor esplanade of more than 17,800 square meters links the facility with the city through landscaped walkways and a restored palm grove.

The €40 million project is part of a broader modernization plan for cruise infrastructure across Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote.

The construction, carried out by Satocán, incorporated recycled materials, energy-efficient systems, solar power, and sustainable waste management.

The Las Palmas Port Authority also contributed to upgrading the surrounding areas.

Beatriz Calzada, President of the Las Palmas Port Authority, said the new terminal “strengthens the Canary Islands’ position in the Mid-Atlantic and establishes Las Palmas as a key hub for both homeport and transit cruise operations.”

Susana Gutiérrez, General Manager of GPH Canary Islands Cruise Ports, called the launch “a decisive step towards the professionalization of cruise services” and emphasized a “commitment to sustainable growth on the island.”

The new terminal is expected to increase cruise traffic and contribute to the local economy through higher activity in commerce, hospitality, and related services.

Global Ports Holding (GPH) is an international cruise port operator headquartered in London. It manages a global network of cruise ports and terminals in Europe, the Americas, and Asia under concession and management agreements.
