The Port of Klaipeda set a new record by reaching one million TEUs handled in a year in the month of October.
“Reaching the one million container mark for the fourth consecutive year demonstrates that the Port of Klaipeda is a solid and reliable player in the container market. One million is not the limit; the numbers continue to grow every year.
These results are the fruit of teamwork and smart decisions, where good infrastructure is combined with professional operations.
When the Port Authority creates the right conditions for business and the stevedoring companies do their work with quality and precision, the result speaks for itself,” said the CEO of the Klaipeda Port Authority, Algis Latakas.
This year, the one million TEUs handled was reached earlier than ever, in early October. Last year, the milestone was reached in mid-December, and in 2023 and 2022, just a few days before the year ended.
“The completion of the navigation channel deepening project two years ago opened opportunities to receive larger vessels with greater cargo capacity, or to load them more efficiently. Other projects implemented recently have also contributed to positive handling figures, ensuring smoother navigation and more efficient planning processes, even in adverse weather conditions. The fast and efficient services provided by the Port Authority and the stevedoring companies are a key advantage that encourages carriers to route their cargo through Klaipeda,” specified the Port Authority.
It is projected that by the end of this year, approximately 1.3 million TEU containers will be handled in the port. Last year, the Port of Klaipeda handled 1,068,771 TEU containers, and in 2023, 1,050,804.
