Maersk, working with 50 shipowners, is rolling out a large-scale retrofit program across 200 vessels to boost fuel efficiency, expand cargo capacity, and cut greenhouse gas emissions. Over 1,500 projects have already been completed, with 1,000 more planned by 2027. Key upgrades include replacing propellers and bulbous bows to reduce drag, installing waste heat recovery and shaft generator systems to save fuel, and enhancing cargo capacity. The investment is shared between Maersk and vessel owners, supporting the company’s target of a 35% reduction in Scope 1 emissions by 2030 and progress toward its 2040 net-zero goal.
