October 9, 2025 – A.P. Moller – Maersk (hereinafter referred to as “Maersk”), a global leading integrated logistics provider, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with CATL in Hong Kong. The two parties will carry out comprehensive and in-depth cooperation focusing on promoting the low-carbon transformation of the global supply chain and enhancing CATL’s global supply chain management.

Morten Bo Christiansen, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Energy Transition at Maersk, and Li Xiaoning, Executive President of Overseas Automotive Business at CATL, signed the document on behalf of their respective companies. Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of the Board of Maersk, and Tan Libin, Chief Customer Officer and Co-President of the Market System at CATL, along with other representatives from both sides, witnessed the signing.

Over the past 5 years, Maersk and CATL have established a solid cooperative foundation in areas such as ocean shipping and multimodal transport. Maersk will become CATL’s preferred global logistics partner, providing CATL with integrated supply chain solutions covering ocean shipping, air freight, project logistics, and warehousing and distribution.

To address the increasingly complex global trade environment, the two parties will also jointly explore more resilient and scalable supply chain management models. Maersk will tailor logistics solutions for CATL based on the characteristics of different regional markets to enhance the overall efficiency of its global supply chain.

Based on CATL’s leading advantages in advanced battery technology, energy storage solutions, and battery recycling, Maersk and CATL will jointly promote the electrification of key links in the supply chain. As Maersk’s preferred partner in battery technology, the two parties will jointly explore promoting the electrification of Maersk’s container fleet, port ecosystem, inland transportation, and warehousing, including power system design, energy management, and battery recycling solutions.

Morten Bo Christiansen, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Energy Transition at Maersk, stated: “The cooperation between Maersk and CATL continues to expand, deepen, and enter a new stage. By integrating CATL’s cutting-edge battery technology with Maersk’s global logistics capabilities, we are redefining the possibilities of logistics. This cooperation will not only contribute to Maersk’s low-carbon transition but also create long-term value for customers and the entire industry.”

Tan Libin, Chief Customer Officer and Co-President of the Market System at CATL, stated: “Maersk and CATL are jointly committed to promoting the energy transition to achieve a net-zero emission future. In this new development stage, the two parties will deepen cooperation in areas such as ocean shipping, end-to-end supply chains, digitalization, and new energy applications, working together to accelerate the decarbonization process of the global logistics industry.”

Maersk is currently the world’s second-largest container shipping company. The latest data from Alphaliner shows that, as of now, Maersk’s fleet capacity totals 734 vessels at 4.61 million TEU, including 344 owned vessels and 390 chartered vessels, representing a market share of approximately 14.0%. Furthermore, Maersk has 71 new vessels on order, totaling 920,000 TEU, accounting for 19.9% of the existing fleet.

According to Maersk’s sustainability targets, the company aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, which is at least 10 years ahead of the vast majority of its peers in the shipping industry. Simultaneously, Maersk has also set nearer-term targets, requiring a 50% reduction in the greenhouse gas emission intensity of its ocean fleet and a 70% reduction in the absolute emissions from terminals it fully controls by 2030.
