According to a recent announcement from A.P. Moller-Maersk, the global logistics leader has chosen Charlotte, North Carolina as its new North American headquarters. This strategic move is a key part of the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance its regional footprint.

The Danish shipping powerhouse plans to increase its workforce in Charlotte by over 500 positions, which will elevate total employment in the area to more than 1,300 individuals. This decision underscores Maersk’s dedication to expanding its influence across North America while evolving into a comprehensive logistics partner for clients.

Maersk has been rooted in Charlotte for over twenty years and acquired its current facility in South Charlotte back in 2006. The new headquarters will serve as a hub for essential corporate functions such as finance, human resources, commercial strategy, and technology operations.

Charles van der Steene, President of Maersk’s North America Region, shared insights on this development: “Our growth and transformation within the North American market have been significant,” he noted. “Establishing an official headquarters here will enable us to better serve our customers while fostering an environment where our employees can excel.”

Van der Steene also highlighted the company’s strong ties with the local community: “For over two decades we’ve cultivated meaningful relationships here; we’re thrilled to deepen our commitment to this dynamic region.”

The choice of Charlotte was influenced by several factors including cost-effectiveness, a growing talent pool, and an excellent quality of life-making it an appealing base for Maersk’s operations as they continue scaling their logistics services throughout North America.

A.P. Moller-Maersk operates globally as an integrated logistics provider dedicated to streamlining supply chains for customers around the world. With operations spanning more than 130 countries and employing roughly 100,000 people globally, Maersk is poised for continued growth and innovation.
