A fire broke out in the engine room of bulk carrier Abusamah (IMO 8200644) at around 05:00 local time on October 30th while it was berthed
at Cilegon port, western Java, Sunda Strait. The fire soon engulfed the engine
room. The ship was loading ammonium phosphate, a fertilizer, and about 1,500
tons were already loaded. Attempts to extinguish the fire failed, and it
continued to spread. It was decided to take the ship from berth to anchorage,
to avoid fire spreading to other ships. She was brought to anchorage by four
tugs, with firefighting continuing. All 27 crew left the ship, no injuries
reported. As of October 28th the vessel had been north of Cigading,
Indonesia.
1984-built, Indonesia-flagged, 7,497 gt Abusamah is owned
by Pupuk Indonesia Logistik PT of Jakarta, Indonesia. It is managed by Pupuk
Indonesia Persero Pt.
A longshoreman lost his life due to a container handling
accident at Port Everglades in Florida. Odely Joseph, 51, was a resident of
Fort Lauderdale. The accident occurred aboard the small boxship feeder vessel Hohebank (IMO 9435818). Eyewitnesses stated that they saw the man getting hit by a
shipping container. The Broward medical examiner’s office has concluded that
the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head. However, the circumstances
of the accident are being further investigated by the homicide detectives of
the Sheriff’s office along with officials from the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA). The vessel has departed the Port Everglades and
has returned to its itinerary in the Caribbean. As of October 31st the vessel was moored at Castries, St Lucia.

Cargo ship Moraz (IMO 9104809), which had run
aground on March 11th in Iskenderun Port, Turkey and was refloated on
June 16th, was planned to be taken to Izmir to a scrap yard for
dismantling. 1995-built, Panama-flagged, 7,617 gt Moraz is owned by Moraz
Shipping LLC care of manager Haifa Marine Shipping Ltd of Haifa, Israel. No AIS
since June 23rd, when it had been at Iskenderun, Turkey.
Oil products tanker Suzdal (IMO 9288992) was in
collision with a fishing boat in Rostov-on-Don on October 24th near the
drawbridge. The tanker tangentially touched a fishing boat, which had three men
on board. Nobody was injured. An investigation into the incident was launched.
2003-built, Russia-flagged, 4,378 gt Suzdal is owned by
Astronavt of Astrakhan, Russia. It is managed by Navigator LLC-Rus of St
Petersburg, Russia. As of October 30th the vessel was north of
Krivskiy en route from Volgodonsk to Rostov-on-Don.
