A container on the deck of offshore tug / supply ship ASSO (IMO 7921019) exploded at Crotone Port, Calabria, southern Italy, reportedly killing three crew and injuring one,
during the evening of August 31st. The Asso was about to set sail for Malta. Land fire teams and a tug were deployed, with the fire understood to have been extinguished after a couple of hours. Last AIS from August 19th has the vessel as Stopped at Licata, southern Sicily, Italy.

1981-built, St Vincent & Grenadines-flagged, 1,933 gt Asso is owned by Belinda Shipholding Corp of Majuro, Marshall Islands. It is manager by Energy & Logistics SA of Lugano, Switzerland.

A fire erupted on board containership Shamim (IMO 9270658) on August 31st while it was docked at Haydarpasa, Istanbul, where it had been since late 2021, apparently for repairs. Firefighting teams and a tug responded. As a result the fire, in the aft section of the ship, was extinguished.

2004-built, Iran-flagged, 23,285 gt Shamim is owned by Oghiaanous Khoroushan Shipping care of ISM manager Rahbaran Omid Darya Ship Management Co of Tehran, Iran. Commercial manager is Hafez Darya Arya Shipping Co of Tehran, Iran.

Bulk carrier Meghna Liberty (IMO 9668051) was boarded by three perpetrators while the vessel was transiting eastward along the Phillip Channel, Singapore Strait during the evening of August 28th. The criminals were spotted in the engine room armed with metal rods, hammers and knives. The alarm was raised and a search of the vessel was conducted, but there were no further sightings of the perpetrators. There were no casualties and no items were reported stolen. The vessel did not require assistance, and
continued its passage to Singapore.

2014-built, Bangladesh-flagged, 31,877 gt Meghna Liberty is owned by Unique Cement Industries Ltd care of manager Mercantile Shipping Lines of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is entered with Skuld (Business Unit Skuld Singapore International) on behalf of Mercantile Shipping Lines Ltd.

Some 450kg of cocaine was reported to have been seized at a port in Aracruz, in the north of Espírito Santo, Brazil during the early afternoon of August 29th. The stash was hidden under the hull of general cargo ship Halophyla (IMO 9613329), which was moored at the site. The drug was apparently onloaded in the port of Santos, São Paulo, where the ship had berthed from August 16th to August 23rd. Federal Police divers managed to remove nine packages. Work continued in order to ensure that all illegal cargo had been removed. As of September 1st the vessel was at Portocel anchorage. There was no suggestion that the operators of the vessel had any idea that the drugs had been hidden on the ship.
