On June 23, the 87,000-ton general dry cargo ship (MW472-1) built by Mawei Shipbuilding under Fujian Shipbuilding commenced construction smoothly.

The vessel has an overall length of 229.90 meters, a molded breadth of 36.00 meters, a molded depth of 21.05 meters, a design draft of 11.00 meters, and a structural draft of 14.50 meters. The speed at design draft is approximately 15.5 knots, with a range of 25,000 nautical miles. The ship can carry 3,084 containers, with 304 reefer containers stowable on the hatch covers. It is capable of transporting dry bulk cargoes, including grain, metal concentrates, salt, sugar, bagged cement, scrap metal, and ores, as well as wood pulp, forest products, cotton and other agricultural products, steel products, long and large project cargoes, heavy-lift cargoes, containers, and goods under the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code. The crew complement is 25, and the vessel is classed with CCS.

This vessel combines the characteristics of a bulk carrier and a container ship. Fujian Shipbuilding has successfully built multiple types of bulk carriers and container ships, accumulating mature experience in construction processes and precision control for both ship types. With the commencement of the project, the project team will fully leverage existing technical expertise, scientifically coordinate the entire process flow including block construction, berth assembly, outfitting and commissioning, strictly control safety and quality, strengthen collaboration and process monitoring at all stages, ensure orderly progress of subsequent milestones, and strive for high-quality delivery on schedule, laying a solid foundation for the company to further consolidate its advantages in multi-purpose ship construction and expand into niche markets.
