México: First phase of the expansion and modernization project of the Port of Progreso concludes

Federal authorities of Mexico, state authorities, legislators, representatives of the business sector and the port community celebrated the completion of the first phase of the Expansion and Modernization Project of the Port of Progreso. The culmination of this stage also marked the beginning of the second phase, which will be developed with private investment from SSA Marine México.

During the event, it was highlighted that the initiative constitutes one of the most relevant strategic works for the development of Yucatán and the Mexican Southeast, by strengthening the logistical, commercial and industrial capacity of the region and consolidating the port facility as a key node for national and international trade.

The completion of the first phase represented progress in strengthening the maritime infrastructure of the State, while the start of the second phase will allow the expansion of the port’s operational capabilities to continue, generating favorable conditions for attracting new investments, the installation of terminals, the strengthening of productive chains and the creation of economic development opportunities for the region.

The general director of the Administration of the National Port System (Asipona) Progreso, Jorge Tobilla, highlighted that the completion of the first phase and the start of the second phase of the Expansion Project represent a historic moment for Yucatán, by strengthening the strategic infrastructure of the Port of Progreso.

Toballa pointed out that this work will allow increasing operational capacity, attracting new investments and consolidating the Port as a key logistical node for the economic development of the Mexican Southeast; subsequently, SSA Marine México announced the private investment destined for the second phase, which will allow receiving larger cruise ships.
