news, on November 26, the world’s largest liner company, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), has taken action to strengthen its presence in Bangladesh by having its subsidiary MEDLOG sign a franchise agreement to operate the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (PICT).
PICT is located on the banks of the Buriganga River, close to the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway. According to the agreement, MEDLOG will be responsible for the operation, supply, and automation construction of PICT. Additionally, MEDLOG will expand the terminal facilities to support growing trade volumes, increasing the throughput capacity to 160,000 TEUs per year, and enhance the connection between Pangaon and other inland terminals and seaports through barge services.
MSC CEO Soren Toft stated, “As a global leader in the container shipping industry, the MSC Group serves over 500 ports, invests in more than 100 terminals worldwide, and operates numerous inland terminals through MEDLOG, giving us a unique understanding of the development and prosperity of the cargo ecosystem. MSC’s investment in the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal demonstrates that Bangladesh has the potential to become one of the major gateways for regional trade in South Asia and global trade.”
