Since Norsepower and Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. signed a Cooperation Agreement (COA) in Shanghai in March this year, the two parties have steadily implemented the strategic cooperation framework, continuously advanced the strategic agreement, and constantly deepened the scope of cooperation. Recently, the two parties signed another agreement, formally reaching a special R&D cooperation agreement to further strengthen coordinated innovation in the field of wind-assisted propulsion technology.
The agreement was jointly signed by Heikki Pöntynen, CEO of Norsepower, and Mr. Liu Wenjun, Deputy General Manager of Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering, with representatives from both parties witnessing the signing ceremony. Building on the previous cooperation agreement covering the production, sales, installation, and service of Norsepower Rotor Sails™, this newly signed special R&D cooperation agreement aims to jointly advance the further development and optimization of key components of the Norsepower Rotor Sails.
The agreement reflects the commitment of both parties to continuously improve wind propulsion solutions and accelerate their deployment in the global shipping industry. The joint development work will focus on enhancing design, manufacturability, installation efficiency, and operational performance, providing strong support for the R&D and project implementation of the next generation of Norsepower Rotor Sails, and fully demonstrating the shared vision of both parties to continuously drive innovation in wind-assisted propulsion technology and accelerate its large-scale adoption in the global shipping industry.
Heikki Pöntynen, CEO of Norsepower, stated: “The wind propulsion market continues to grow rapidly, and innovation remains crucial to ensuring we provide our customers with the highest levels of performance, reliability, and value. We are very pleased to deepen our R&D cooperation with Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering and continue developing technologies that support the large-scale application of wind propulsion.”
The two parties signed their first Memorandum of Understanding last year and announced measures to deepen cooperation earlier this year. This latest agreement further consolidates the long-term partnership between Norsepower and Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering, organically combining Norsepower’s industry-leading wind propulsion expertise with Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering’s deep engineering, manufacturing, and industrialization capabilities.
As regulatory requirements and market drivers continue to accelerate the decarbonization process of the global shipping industry, both parties will remain committed to advancing practical and scalable solutions, helping shipowners reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions, and improve operational efficiency, contributing to the green and low-carbon transformation of the global shipping industry.
