Shipping companies do not face geographical limitations either in acquiring their resources or in providing their services. However, the shipping industry is not uniform but consists of individual market sectors.
The distinction of companies can also be based on the distinction of markets. In this context, based on the criteria of the scope of their activities and the degree of integration of these activities, shipping companies are divided into the following four categories:
In the case of Greek-owned shipping, most companies belong to the third category, that of independent carriers engaged exclusively in providing maritime transport services.
