news, Norden has signed a new two-year Contract of Affreightment (COA) with US wood pellet producer Enviva.

According to the agreement, over the next two years, Norden will transport “significant” volumes of wood pellets from the US to Europe for Enviva, the world’s largest wood pellet producer. The shipments will primarily use Handysize bulk carriers, with each shipment carrying approximately 27,000-33,000 tons.

Headquartered in Maryland, Enviva is the world’s largest industrial wood pellet producer, operating several plants in the southeastern United States. Wood pellets, as a renewable biomass fuel, play an important role in Europe’s energy transition.

Norden considers Enviva a “key customer”. This agreement continues the long-term cooperative relationship between the two companies, who have been collaborating on transatlantic wood pellet transportation since 2012.

Norden CEO Jan Rindbo stated, “Enviva is a key customer for Norden. We are very pleased that our relationship and performance with Enviva ultimately led to their decision to extend the contract with us.”

He pointed out, “The cooperation with Enviva enables us to once again transport wood pellets, thereby contributing to the supply of sustainable energy products to customers across the Atlantic.
