The new donation MINERVA MARINE by the Martinos family to Kalymnos constitutes yet another generous act of social contribution.
Yet another act of social contribution from the shipowning family of Andreas Martinos came to substantially support the island of Kalymnos. With expenses covered entirely by the shipping company MINERVA MARINE, the complete renovation of the “Michaelios Storgis Home” of the Holy Metropolis of Leros, Kalymnos and Astypalaia — the former Michaelios Boys Orphanage of Kalymnos — was completed.
The now renovated building, externally and internally, offers modern and comfortable living conditions to underprivileged students of the Kalymnos Merchant Marine Academy, substantially contributing to their educational and social support. At the same time, under the care of His Eminence Metropolitan Mr. Paisios, a woman has undertaken duties of care and cleaning, to ensure the daily functionality and upkeep of the premises.
The sanctification ceremony of the renovated “Michaelios” took place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at noon, immediately after the inauguration of the new children’s playground in the area of Agios Stephanos. The sanctification was performed by the Metropolitan of Leros, Kalymnos and Astypalaia, Mr. Paisios, in the presence of the Martinos family.
Representing the family were shipowner Andreas Martinos with his wife Alexandra, as well as their son Andreas A. Martinos, head of MINERVA MARINE, with his wife Marina. Among the guests were the Chief of HNDGS General Dimitrios Choupis and the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Dimitrios Kataras, who attended privately, in civilian attire. Local authorities were also present, with the Mayor of Kalymnos Ioannis Mastrokoukko and the Prefect of Kalymnos Prefecture Manolis Mousellis.
During the event, Metropolitan Paisios warmly thanked the Martinos family for this significant contribution, attributing special value to the tangible support of the local community and the island’s youth. As a token of gratitude, he offered Andreas Martinos and his son Andreas A. Martinos icons of Saint Sabbas.
The event concluded with a tour of the renovated spaces of the institution, which now serves as a model of hospitality and care for the young students of the Kalymnos MMA.
