Recently, on April 29, 2026, the naming ceremony of the world’s largest sailing ship took place. It is the -220-meter- “Orient Express Corinthian”, built in France by Chantiers de l’Atlantique.

The giant sailing ship is the result of an entire decade of research and development. It is not only an impressive, luxurious ship with 54 suites and five restaurants, but also a landmark for the development of technologies that help shipping align with decarbonization goals.

It is noted that the sailing ship carries three automated masts, each of which has a sail area of 1,500 sq.m., allowing the vessel to rely entirely on wind propulsion.

Additionally, the “Orient Express Corinthian” is equipped with detection systems, assisted by artificial intelligence, that allow the ship to locate -and avoid- marine life, or even floating objects.

On May 2, the sailing ship began its maiden voyage on the French Riviera, while later it will also be found in other regions across the Mediterranean.
