The Authority introduces LoTSA 2.0, with semiannual cycles and greater flexibility for shipping companies

Panama – The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has announced the launch of Long-Term Slot Allocation 2.0 (LoTSA 2.0), an updated system for booking transits. The program will replace the current annual cycle with two semiannual cycles: the first will run from January 4 to July 4, 2026, with a bid deadline set for October 28, 2025.
Daily slots will be reduced from four to three, while the available packages — such as FixContainer, FlexContainer, FixGas, FlexGas, FlexGas+ and FlexSlot+ — will offer different levels of certainty and flexibility, depending on the operational needs of the fleets.
With the new system, shipowners will be able to communicate the vessel’s name up to 15 days before the transit, request up to two date changes with five days’ notice, and cancel with at least 15 days’ advance notice, paying 80% of the awarded tariff.
According to the ACP, LoTSA 2.0 represents a strategic advantage because it allows for better planning of operations, optimization of flows, and reduction of emissions, benefiting both the Canal and its customers. The Authority also anticipated that it is developing a new customer ranking system.
