An inland passenger ship, Arminius, with 170 passengers onboard, collided with a freighter on the Mittelland Canal in Hanover, Germany on 20 June, resulting in minor injuries to six passengers.
According to the Hanover Fire Department, the incident reportedly occurred on 20 June near the Noltemeyer Bridge, during an overtaking maneuver attempted by one of the ships. The passenger ship safely docked at the canal bank and emergency services arrived shortly after and assisted in the disembarkation of passengers, with the injured passengers receiving medical treatment. Fortunately, hospitalization was needed.
Furthermore, both vessels sustained damage in the collision, however, the extent of damage to either vessel is unclear. Authorities confirmed that no operational fluids leaked into the water, and no pollution was reported.
After the incident, the freighter proceeded and was moored at the Anderter lock and the Mittelland Canal was temporarily closed for some hours after the incident. An investigation has also been launched about the incident.
