The Salaverry Port Terminal inaugurated a new nine-hectare anthracite warehouse, which considered an investment amounting to USD 11 million, according to the National Port Authority of Peru (APN).

This is aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of the maritime station with more than 400 thousand tons of specialized storage for high-quality mineral coal, which would mark a “before and after in port logistics in the north of the country,” according to the APN.

In addition, it is expected that the infrastructure will allow exporters to optimize costs, improve the efficiency of their operations and “project an image of greater competitiveness in international markets, especially in Europe and Asia,” the Peruvian port entity said.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, César Sandoval, the CEO of the Tramarsa Group, Gabriel Monge; the president of the APN, Juan Arrisueño Gómez de la Torre; the mayor of the District of Salaverry, Carlos Arroyo; the General Manager of Salaverry International Terminal (STI), Diego Cassinelli; as well as the General Manager of the APN, Jorge Chávez Oliden.

In this regard, Minister Sandoval pointed out that “with the vision of the constitutional president of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, we strengthen the public-private alliance that generates employment and improves the lives of citizens. This step reaffirms the Government’s commitment to enhance port competitiveness and the economic development of the country.”

Meanwhile, the APN remarked that “the Salaverry Port Terminal is consolidated as a strategic hub for foreign trade, supporting the goal of positioning La Libertad and Peru among the main exporters of anthracite in the world.”

Finally, it is worth mentioning that within the framework of the inauguration ceremony, the head of the MTC was able to inspect the area of operations of Pier 1 and, in addition, observe the tasks linked to the Frida Bukker ships – which shipped 40 thousand tons of anthracite stone coal in bulk – and DIONI. GR, which unloaded 25 thousand tons of corn and soybeans.
