A group of port workers again blocked vehicular traffic on streets in Valparaíso with incendiary barricades, particularly near the port. The elements were installed on Errázuriz, Blanco, and Cochranne streets, which kept the flow of cars suspended in both directions for several minutes.
This is a new pressure measure within the framework of the negotiation process that the Valparaíso Stevedores Union is holding with the company Report, linked to the Valparaíso Port Terminal (TPV). A police presence was reported at the scene with the aim of clearing the traffic lanes.
It is worth remembering that recently the Valparaíso Bay Employees Union reached an agreement with the subsidiary firm of Agunsa, which allowed the parties to sign a new Job Position Provision Agreement.
The union, still in disagreement, emphasizes the need to achieve job stability, access to health benefits, achieve the reinstatement of dismissed colleagues, ensure compliance with DS 594 (related to safety and health at work), among other demands.
For its part, TPV made a “fervent call to the Valparaíso Stevedores Union to reach a swift closing agreement; we are sure that we can, with willingness, provide stability and real support to our collaborators and their families, based on the principle that the safety and well-being of people are fundamental and non-negotiable values for TPV.”
Finally, it should be mentioned that the agreement with the port workers’ association expired on October 1, which triggered a series of pressure measures like the one that occurred recently. An agreement had been reached with the leaders of both unions on Friday the 3rd, but on Saturday the 4th, the rank and file voted to reject the proposal.
