The Port Authority of Castellón has put out to tender the works for the conditioning of the Irta lighthouse, an action that is part of its commitment to guarantee the conservation of the lighthouses it manages and which are part of the historical and cultural heritage of the province. The execution period for the work is two months, and the cost is about 100,000 euros. “The Port Authority’s commitment to promoting protection work for the lighthouses as they are unique monuments that are part of the historical and cultural heritage of the province,” stated the president of PortCastelló, Rubén Ibáñez.
Specifically, the action consists of the execution of a reinforced concrete perimeter enclosure to prevent the risk of falling from a height. The works include the repair of cracks, structural reinforcement with treatment of reinforcements, improvement of the facade, walls and cornice, coating with plastic paint and other actions.
The conditioning of the Irta lighthouse is part of the PortCastelló Lighthouse and Building Inspection and Maintenance Plan. The Port Authority contracted in 2021 the checking and inspection of the lighthouses under its jurisdiction in order to have useful information on the state of its facilities. The Irta lighthouse is part of the PortCastelló Lighthouse Route, a route that was signposted by the Port Authority of Castellón and which includes a total of 7 lighthouses: those of Nules, Oropesa del Mar, Serra de Irta, Peñíscola, Columbretes and the lighthouses of Castellón located inside the port.
