The first week of May recorded the highest vehicle movement ever carried out by Portos do Paraná, with emphasis on the disembarkation of 5,101 electric cars from a single ship coming from China. The operation lasted 24 hours and involved around 350 workers distributed across different shifts.
It was the largest operation ever carried out at the Port of Paranaguá, coordinated by Ascensus Gestão e Participações, the company responsible for handling this type of cargo. In March, another large operation had already moved 3,370 units. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, more than 20.9 thousand vehicles were loaded or unloaded in Paranaguá, an increase of 100% compared to the same period in 2025.
Portos do Paraná is increasingly emerging in this type of operation and is among the main Brazilian ports in the movement of vehicles and rolling cargo. Currently, the port has five maritime lines in the automotive segment in operation.
For the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia, this performance is the result of operational efficiency, which ranges from the reception of ships to loading and unloading, in addition to the high level of productivity throughout the entire process. “Another factor is the workforce involved, which brings together hundreds of professionals recognized by companies in the sector as the most careful in the country,” he highlighted.
The director of Ascensus also points to the qualification of workers as one of the main differentials. Another positive point is the structure dedicated to receiving vehicles. “Paranaguá has an exclusive berth for Ro-Ro (Roll-off) ships. This avoids competition with other cargo and reduces waiting time, making the operation more agile and efficient,” he explained.
Another highlight of the operation is the ship _Saic Anji Harmony_, of Liberian flag, built in 2024 and considered sustainable for being powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The vessel is among the largest in the world for transporting vehicles, with capacity for 7,660 units.
In March of this year, Portos do Paraná launched the Decarbonization Plan, which provides for the adoption of measures to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. The plan was prepared by Fundación Valenciaport, linked to the Port of Valencia.
Among the planned actions is the prioritization of berthing for ships considered more sustainable, with better environmental performance. These vessels have preference in the berthing schedule, as provided for in the Regulation for Ship Scheduling, Operations and Berthing (2023 edition), which encourages the reduction of emissions in the port environment.
