The general director of PortosRio, Flavio Vieira, highlighted the relevance of the Port of Rio de Janeiro for Petrobras’ operations in the Santos Basin, also emphasizing that the port facility is “strategic for offshore support in the country.”

The above was stated by Vieira during his participation in the first Brazil Export Minas and Energy National Forum, held on November 25 and 26 in Brasilia, which brought together authorities, specialists, and representatives from the sector to discuss the energy transition, critical infrastructure, and the country’s logistical challenges.

The CEO participated in the opening panel and presented the company’s advances in the oil and gas chain, with an emphasis on its performance in offshore support and the environmental agenda of the public ports of Rio de Janeiro.

Thus, during the meeting, Flavio reinforced the relevance of the Port of Rio de Janeiro for Petrobras’ operations in the Santos Basin and in the pre-salt layer, mentioning that the port “is strategic for offshore support in the country” and that the new lease of the RDJ07 Terminal enables “more than R$ 250 million in structural improvements, dredging, and environmental actions, consolidating our operation as modern, efficient, and sustainable.”

He also commented on the progress for the reactivation of Porto do Forno, in Arraial do Cabo, highlighting that the resolution of environmental liabilities and the joint action with INEA, ICMBio, and Antaq will allow for the responsible reopening of the terminal. Flavio stated that the company is “preparing Porto do Forno to operate safely and responsibly, reinforcing its vocation for offshore support.”

When addressing the environmental governance of the ports, the president underlined that PortosRio has incorporated more rigorous criteria in the lease contracts, aligned with the guidelines of the Ministry of Ports and Airports. He emphasized that “sustainability must be present in every contract and in every operation,” qualifying this guideline as “a necessary and irreversible requirement for the future of Brazilian ports.”

Flavio concluded by reaffirming PortosRio’s commitment to the modernization of the five public ports under its administration and to the consolidation of sustainable practices throughout the logistics chain.

The general director highlighted that “our focus is to ensure that the ports of Rio de Janeiro are prepared for the future: efficient, environmentally responsible, and integrated with the demands of the energy sector.”

“Every lease, every operation, and every investment is aligned with the best national and international practices,” he concluded.
