Spain’s ports of general interest moved 465,120,751 tonnes through October 2025, representing a decrease of 0.7% compared to the same period the previous year, according to provisional data.

Although goods movements remain below 2024 levels due to global uncertainty, the October figure shows a slight recovery, with a decrease of 0.7%, after the -1.7% in September, and far from the declines of spring and summer (-2.9% in May, -3.1% in June or -2.3% in July and August) thanks to the strength of conventional cargo and a timid improvement in liquid bulks.

General merchandise registered a decrease of 0.2% in the ten months of the year, 234.2 million tonnes, with a 3.8% increase in conventional cargo, with 74.5 million tonnes, while containerized cargo fell by -2%, (159.6 million tonnes) compared to the same period the previous year.

TEUs recorded an increase of 2.4%, exceeding 15.6 million units through October. The downward trend in transshipment TEUs (-1.4%) since the beginning of this year continues, although more moderate than in previous months. And import-export TEUs continue the upward trend (+8.3%) in Spanish ports.

Liquid bulk traffic broke the downward trend in October with an increase of 0.2%, with almost 150 million tonnes, thanks to the recovery of gasoline, natural gas, and chemical products. Solid bulks recorded a decrease of 4.5% compared to the same period the previous year, with a cumulative total of 67.7 million tonnes.

Ro-Ro movements grew by 3%, approaching 63 million tonnes.

The number of merchant ships in Spanish ports decreased by 2.3% compared to the ten months of the previous year, with a total of 138,239 units, and the gross tonnage increased by 1%.

Passenger traffic increased by 4.8% through October compared to the same period in 2024, exceeding 36.8 million movements.
