The Port of Leixões received the vessel Shun Fu Da, a Kamsarmax type bulk carrier, coming from China and Taiwan, which was transporting steel products, mainly steel coils, which after passing through Portugal will continue to Belgium and Poland.
The Shun Fu Da, with a length of 229 meters, a beam of 32.26 meters and a displacement of 95,000 tons, is the largest vessel accepted so far to operate east of the movable bridge, following a safety assessment carried out by the Piloting Department of the Port of Leixões, taking into account the recent investments made by the APDL in high-traction tugboats and improvements in maritime accessibility, particularly in the deepening of the outer channel and the maneuvering basin, and the extension of the breakwater.
“The new number of ships entering the Port of Leixões demonstrates the capacity of the port infrastructure to receive larger vessels, reinforcing its role as a gateway for large cargo flows, consolidating itself as a benchmark logistics hub in the Atlantic, prepared to respond to the demands of the regional economy and international supply chains,” stated the Port Authority.
The cargo movement was handled by TCGL – Leixões General Cargo and Bulk Terminal SA and under the agency of ICC – Navegação, one of its partners in the Port of Leixões.
The operation involved the unloading of 3,550 tons of steel coils, each weighing between 12 and 20 tons.
