Keihin Dock, a company of the NYK Group, received Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka of the Republic of Fiji and a delegation of 10 government officials at its Koyasu Works facility in Yokohama.
During the tour, Keihin Dock presented its latest environmental technologies for fuel ships and discussed the NYK Group’s long-standing relationship with Fiji. The visitors showed great interest in the company’s achievements, particularly in the construction of the Sakigake — the world’s first ammonia-fueled tugboat for commercial use — and in decarbonization initiatives in the shipping sector.
The NYK Group has maintained regular liner services to Fiji since its entry into the South Pacific trade in 1981, remaining operational even during the pandemic. Currently, only two shipping companies — including the NYK Group (through NYK and its subsidiary NYK Bulk & Project Carriers)— directly serve Fiji’s transport needs for vehicles, containers, and conventional cargo from the Far East region.
In 2021, the Group also supported Fiji’s public infrastructure by transporting patrol boats from the Port of Nagoya, thus contributing to the country’s maritime sector and social development.
