The Private Investment Promotion Agency of Peru (Proinversión) announced that this month the “New Port Terminals of Loreto (Iquitos and Saramiriza)” project will be incorporated into the investment promotion process, under the co-financed Public-Private Partnership (PPP) modality. The initiative will allow for the modernization and expansion of port infrastructure in the Loreto region.

During the week of October 20, according to the entity, the project Formulation phase is expected to be completed, with the approval of the Evaluation Report, which foresees the project’s viability under the PPP mechanism and its incorporation into the private investment promotion process managed by Proinversión. This stage is fundamental to guarantee that the project is technically sound, sustainable, and generates value for both the public and private sectors.

Subsequently, the Structuring phase will begin, in which all the necessary aspects for its delivery in concession will be defined, such as the economic – financial, legal, socio-environmental, land, and risk regime of the project in general, in addition to the preparation of the concession contract that will allow its future award through an international public tender; the call for tender is scheduled for the second half of 2026.

The “New Port Terminals of Loreto” project, which includes the Sinchicuy Port Terminal and the Saramiriza Port Terminal, contemplates a total estimated investment of US$ 181 million and comprises the construction and modernization of two port terminals located in the provinces of Maynas and Datem del Marañón. These infrastructures will have storage areas, loading docks, operational zones, and specialized equipment to handle the loading and unloading of long-range vessels.

Likewise, the project includes the implementation of an efficient operational structure, the hiring and training of specialized personnel, and the adoption of modern port management standards and procedures, aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of the service.

The main beneficiaries will be the companies and inhabitants of the provinces of Maynas and Datem del Marañón, who will see greater dynamism in productive and commercial activity, boosting local economic development.

The modernization of the ports of Iquitos and Saramiriza will allow for greater efficiency in the transport of goods, reducing logistical costs and times, and fostering the country’s economic integration with Brazil and the Atlantic basin.

Proinversión is preparing the technical studies for the project within the framework of the Collaboration and Mandate Agreement signed in March 2025 with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the National Port Authority (APN), for the development of port terminal projects in Loreto and Pucallpa (Ucayali).
