The removal of approximately 730,000 cubic meters of sediment is planned
The Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority has published the tender for the dredging works of the commercial dock basin of the port of Ancona, an intervention that will involve piers 19 to 26 with a total investment of 18.7 million euros, the largest ever carried out in the history of the Doric port to deepen the seabed. The dredging will allow reaching the maximum depth quota foreseen by the current Port Master Plan, with depths ranging from -12.50 meters at piers 19-20-21 to -14 meters at pier 26. Participation applications must be submitted to the AdSP by September 26.
The removal of approximately 730,000 cubic meters of sediment is planned. The dredged material will be primarily disposed of in the offshore immersion area near Ancona, with a smaller portion allocated to the port’s reclamation basin. Before the start of the works, systematic underwater ordnance clearance of the entire affected basin will be conducted, the awarding of which has already been finalized and is currently in the contracting phase. The intervention will also be accompanied by continuous environmental monitoring under the supervision of the Port System Authority, as required by the regional authorization decree.
The AdSP emphasized that «the dredging of the commercial dock will improve navigability and enhance the competitiveness of the Doric port, which will be able to accommodate larger-capacity and tonnage vessels. An opportunity for both the development of port activities and the growth of the local economy, thanks to a more efficient and competitive infrastructure capable of meeting international demands.» «The dredging of the commercial dock—highlighted the port authority’s president, Vincenzo Garofalo—is a fundamental project for the development of the port of Ancona. We are finally addressing a necessary and long-awaited intervention by operators. With this investment, the port will gain further strategic potential in the national and international port sector, with the possibility of increasing commercial traffic—an opportunity to benefit the competitiveness of Made in Marche and the local economy. A chance to enhance attractiveness for new markets and additional shipping lines.»
