The structure of Apm Terminals (Maersk Group) is preparing to handle the first commercial cargo announced by the Danish company for September 12.

Rijeka – The Cape Fulmar, a small container ship arriving in Rijeka from Port Said, docked under strong bora winds: the first vessel to touch the dock of Apm Terminals’ (Maersk Group) Rijeka Gateway. This is not yet the operational launch of the new terminal, which is nearing completion. The Cape Fulmar was chosen as a training vessel for staff, who on September 12 are expected to begin working on the first commercial cargo announced by Maersk in recent weeks. Rijeka Gateway explains that the container ship from Egypt “will remain in Rijeka for four weeks, serving as a platform for comprehensive training and testing of all operational processes under real conditions, from planning and loading to unloading and terminal vehicle coordination.”

This is not the only development, as alongside the arrival of the container ship, the infrastructure welcomed its first test train, managed by Enna Logic, which holds 49% of Rijeka Gateway. The 500-meter-long convoy delivered empty containers for testing the Rmg cranes, serving a yard with an expected capacity of 650,000 TEUs per year. “Two years after the official start of construction,” emphasizes Rijeka Gateway, “the terminal is now fully equipped and ready for testing operations. The arrival of this container ship and this train marks the beginning of the final testing phase, with our team fully prepared to implement all the systems and processes it has built and refined over the past months.”

Final rehearsals ahead of the debut of Maersk’s new terminal in the Adriatic, which will begin in September with the AE12 service, operated by the Danish company with Hapag-Lloyd between Port Said East, Koper, Rijeka, and again Port Said East, as part of the new Gemini alliance.
