Russia did not succeed in being elected to the Council of the International Maritime Organization IMO in category A, in connection with the 34th General Assembly of the IMO. Russia received 67 votes while none of the ten countries that were elected received fewer than 140 votes.
This is the second time in a row that Russia has failed the election for category A countries, which are the 10 most important countries.
Although the Russians ran for election, they have not yet paid their contribution to the organization.
Denmark is running in the election for category C where there are 20 seats available, and 26 countries are trying to be elected or re-elected.
Denmark’s fate is not yet known at the time of writing.
