The South American tugboat owner will collaborate with a university’s innovation centre to enhance its sustainability programme

SAAM Towage has partnered with the UC Anacleto Angelini Innovation Center to improve its processes, sustainability, ship handling and docking services across Latin America.

The Chilean tugboat owner has established an alliance with the university to participate in the No Limits Programme, which links students with companies to solve real challenges.

Their collaboration, which is part of the SAAM’s sustainability strategy, involves an evaluation of SAAM Towage’s internal capabilities to identify opportunities for improvement and strategies for innovation within the organisation.

“Our alliance with the UC Innovation Center is an opportunity to incorporate new perspectives and continue to promote innovation in our company,” said SAAM Towage sustainability and development manager, Pablo Cáceres.

“It is a powerful tool to better address our customers’ needs and the challenges imposed on us by a world in constant evolution.”

SAAM Towage will be integrated into the UC Innovation Center’s innovation ecosystem, accessing monthly activities that promote collaboration between academia, start-up enterprises and the private sector.

It will be involved in the LABtug: Platform for Integrating Essential Systems, a challenge where a select group of students will work for 15 weeks to develop a customised technological solution.

“The work we will do with SAAM Towage will demonstrate how, when academia and the private sector drive innovation, the impact goes far beyond either organisation,” said UC Innovation Center director of business development, Claudia Bonilla.
