The gradual renewal of the fleet with new low environmental footprint capacity remains a steady priority for Safe Bulkers. As the shipping company announced through a post on its official LinkedIn account, on Thursday, June 25, it proceeded with the successful launching of its first dual-fuel methanol bulk carrier.
The process took place at the Tsuneishi facilities on Xiushan Island, China. The newbuilding, which flies the Cypriot flag and bears the name “TBN KYPROS ISLAND” (Hull No. SS386), is a Kamsarmax bulk carrier with a capacity of 81,200 dwt. Based on the current schedule, its final delivery is scheduled for the end of October 2026.
At an operational level, the vessel is classified in the new generation EEDI Phase 3, incorporating modern design that optimizes its overall energy efficiency. This specific investment serves the company’s broader strategy for transitioning to cleaner fuels, in order to ensure full alignment with future IMO regulations for the reduction of greenhouse gases.
In the same direction, the modernization plan is expected to be further strengthened in January 2027, when the delivery of a second Kamsarmax with dual-fuel-ready specifications is scheduled.
