Gnv has announced the new order for the construction of a further four new ro-pax naval units.Confirming what was anticipated last March 25 by SHIPPING ITALY, the company confirms that the order will be entrusted to the Guangzhou Shipyard International shipyards in Canton (China) with which the same Genoese ferry company and the Msc Group “have a long-standing relationship and with whom they have been working for some time on this ambitious project destined to redesign the standards of the group’s ferry fleet. This new order, added to that of the previous order, will guarantee the company to increase its fleet by 8 new units between 2025 and 2030”.
The start of work is scheduled for 2026 and the delivery of the first ship will take place within the first months of 2028 to be followed by the others on a semi-annual basis. The new units will have a gross tonnage of approximately 71,300 tonnes, a length of 237 meters and a width of 33 meters, will be able to accommodate up to 2500 people (passengers and crew) and will be equipped with 527 cabins and 3500 linear meters of garage. By tonnage, they will be the largest ships of the company and the most capacious in the Mediterranean.
The company also specifies that, as with Gnv Virgo and Gnv Aurora, currently under construction at the same shipyard and arriving by the end of 2025 – 11 months ahead of schedule – “the new units will all be powered by LNG and equipped with state-of-the-art environmental technologies that will guarantee a reduction in CO2 emissions of over 50% per transportable unit compared to previous generation ones. This important operation thus provides a further strong impetus to the path of transition towards more sustainable models attentive to the preservation of the environment that Gnv has already undertaken and in which it strongly believes, considering it a fundamental lever of competitiveness also for the territories it connects”.
