Sedna’s shopping spree continues, with the company having agreed a new deal to acquire voyage management software provider Dataloy Systems.
This adds to a recent acquisitions list that includes CompassAir, Flytta and Nordic IT, deals that have all been announced since Sedna completed a new $42 million fundraising round in 2023.
Based in Norway, Dataloy has provided digital trading, operations and distance calculation system to the maritime sector for more than 20 years. Its platform is used by shipping companies including Saga Welco, Golden Ocean, Stena Bulk and Klaveness, supporting voyage-related functions such as chartering, planning, emissions compliance and P&L management.
The acquisition will see Sedna integrate Dataloy’s cloud-native VMS into its own platform, extending the reach of its application by linking message data directly with voyage execution tools.
Dataloy’s architecture includes open APIs throughout, with mobile and web access designed to support integration with third-party systems.
“Over the past year we have seen a shift in the market’s response to the Dataloy platform. The rebuild means that Dataloy brings critical executional capabilities to Sedna,” said Bill Dobie, Founder and CEO of Sedna.
“Most importantly, it closes the gap between communication and trading, enabling teams to work smarter, faster, and with full context at every step so they can make the best decisions possible.”
“This isn’t about limiting choice. It’s about creating more of it – giving customers flexibility, faster insights, the freedom to work the way they want and a clear vision of what’s possible within an open ecosystem.”
Sedna says it will maintain full continuity for Dataloy’s platform, team and development roadmap. It also plans to continue to support open integration with other voyage management systems or in-house platforms via API, with no additional costs or vendor lock-in.
The acquisition is supported by Sedna’s existing investors, including Insight Partners and SAP’s IO Fund.
