China News Service, Shanghai, June 22 (Xie Mengyuan, Ma Yixuan) On the 21st, the methanol fuel bunkering vessel “Haigang Zhiyuan” completed the bunkering of 3,000 tons of methanol fuel for the vessel “HMM Green” at the South Lvhuashan Anchorage. This operation marked the first ship-to-ship methanol fuel bunkering in Shanghai Port’s anchorage waters, setting a record for the highest single bunkering volume of green methanol in Chinese anchorages.

It is understood that anchorage bunkering operations are characterized by open operational waters and complex dynamic vessel environments. The “Haigang Zhiyuan” faced challenges such as first-time route design and complex navigational conditions at the South Lvhuashan Anchorage during its maiden bunkering voyage there. To address this, the Wusong Maritime Safety Administration implemented a “one-ship, one-policy” full-process control, with the Vessel Traffic Service Center following up on the bunkering operation plan and support scheme. They also sorted out vessels anchored at South Lvhuashan Anchorage in advance, confirmed the planned route with the operation unit and Shanghai Pilot Station, and assigned the nearby Lvhuashan Maritime Patrol and Enforcement Brigade to actively coordinate the berthing and unberthing plans of the lightering platform.

“This ship-to-ship methanol fuel bunkering in the anchorage waters lasted approximately 9 hours, with the entire operation being safe, standardized, and orderly, accumulating valuable regulatory experience for methanol fuel bunkering operations in anchorage waters,” said a relevant official from the Wusong Maritime Safety Administration. In the next step, the Wusong Maritime Safety Administration will continue to optimize the regulatory plan for methanol bunkering operations and improve safety standards for new energy fuel bunkering.
